IMG_3498As parents, you want to strive for the healthiest environment for your little one to play, live and sleep.   As you decided to ditch harsh chemicals in your home and move to more eco-safe and green products, we decided to help you with a list of items you could use when looking for clean with essential oils.  is quite simple to make the switch, but when using pure essential oils, you do need to educate yourself before getting started as they are extremely concentrated and there are safety issues to consider when using them.

With pets, children and babies around, you must consider the dilution ratio. No matter what brand, what plant species, or how much you are using, essential oils should never be used full strength. They must always be mixed with a carrier, such as oil or water.

Essential oils that are safe for use in a diffuser, or in a massage oil for children, are also perfect for cleaning with. The ten best oils to use for children’s health are:

  • Chamomile
  • Peppermint
  • Eucalyptus
  • Tea tree
  • Yarrow
  • Citrus oils (lemon, orange, tangerine, mandarin)
  • Frankincense
  • St. John’s Wort
  • Sandalwood
  • Dill

Keep in mind that little ones should never ingest essential oils, so any DIY cleaners must be kept out of reach, just as the conventional ones are.

While essential oils can be used as part of a natural healthcare routine for healing cuts and scrapes, relieving earaches or as an inhalation remedy for upper respiratory infections, they are also an eco-safe solution to keep your home clean and healthy.

Making your own DIY cleaners does not take any special talent, though it does require some dedication and knowledge. Never mix a plethora of essential oils together, not only will they lose their “scent”, you could unknowingly be creating a harmful concoction.

In the beginning, take it easy on the experimenting and know what is essential to clean your home. You will need a couple of clean spray bottles to make a general cleaner (sometimes called all-purpose cleaner) and a window/mirror cleaner for glass surfaces.
