February’s Cleaning Tip 2008

Bleach can be a friend and not so friendly

People often ask, if they should use bleach on their bathroom grout. There are other product that do a better job of removing stains than bleach. Also if there is a mold or mildew stain under the grout or caulk, the bleach will not remove this stain.

It is important to understand that there are a number of things that household bleach can help you clean. It is also important to realize that not all bleaches are the same. Generic bleach may not have the same quality and cleaning ability as brand names.

The most important thing to remember is that bleach can harm your fabrics and can permanently change the color of your carpet. Also just because I little does a good job, do not over do it.

Make sure that your eyes are protected when cleaning with bleach and wear gloves.

Good uses for bleach:

  • Removing coffee stains from non-stone counter tops
  • Removing coffee and tea stains from cups and mugs
  • Bleach is great for sanitize cutting boards, counter tops and utensils
  • Bleach can also be used to sanitize non carpeted and non natural stone areas that have been exposed to urine
  • Bleach is great for cleaning coolers, trash cans and containers that have been stained with tomato sauce

Make sure you keep your children and pets away from bleach.

Make sure you read the label complete for dilution instructions and never use bleach on wool.

Try to apply bleach with a sponge or towel, instead of a spray bottle.

Never breath in the bleach vapors.

Never, Never, Never mix bleach with any other household cleaner.
